Product Review: Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion

I remember when I first heard about Aveeno: I was so curious and I really wanted to try it.

Their claims are very promising:

  • Active natural ingredients
  • With Colloidal oatmeal and other skin protectants
  • Help even skin tone and texture and bring out skin’s natural radiance
  • Aveeno is the leader of in active naturals
  • Existing natural ingredients that are clinically proven to deliver real skin care benefits leaving you with healthier-looking, beautiful skin
  • Recommended by dermatologists and pediatricians for over 60 years
  • Sounds good, right?

    Then let's see the ingredients:

Water, a href="http://www.bebeautysmart.com/p/ingredient-list.html#Glycerin" target=”_blank”>Glycerin, a href="http://www.bebeautysmart.com/p/ingredient-list.html#Distearyldimonium-Chloride" target=”_blank”>Distearyldimonium Chloride, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Palmitate, Cetyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Benzyl Alcohol, Sodium Chloride (table salt)

My personal experience with this lotion:

It was ok, but because of the ingredients I don't use it anymore. The cream sticks in the pump and then dries in it. I don't like the smell.

    Personal opinion about Dimethicone:

The Dimethicone molecules are too large to penetrate deeply into the skin. This is why you can feel your skin so smooth, because it sits on the skin, but not because it does any good with it.

When you wash your face it will disappear and your skin will be again as it was before you used the cream with Dimethicone. Some people say because it sits on the surface of the skin, Dimethicone is a skin barrier. I don't agree with that.

It coats the skin and traps anything beneath it (eg. dirt, sebum). The skin can't breath, pimples and black heads can occur. (The pores become blocked.) The sebaceous gland continues to secrete sebum into the blocked pore until the pore erupts into the characteristic pustule known as a pimple. Does it sound to you as a skin barrier?

In addition, it damages the hair color if it's in a hair spray, or hair product and has a negative environmental impact as well.

    Summary:

So here we go again...A well-known brand that everyone likes. And now I have to destroy this illusion.

Just let me ask a simple question and if someone can give me a proper answer, I will be more than happy. What makes this Aveeno lotion an effective moisturizer? The Oatmeal which is the end of the list and proximately it's 1%? This is a water based lotion, which means it's 80% water.

This lotion is nothing, but synthetic chemicals. Synthetic emollients, emulsifiers, preservatives and thickeners that create the illusion that it helps. But it doesn't. Active naturals? No. It's called greenwashing. Exactly as the claim said: "healtier-looking". Healthy and healthier-looking are not the same. We have to start to read between the words.

The Collodial Oatmeal is almost the last ingredient as I mentioned before, when it should be the first ingredient.

A product can't be natural just because it contain 1 tiny amount of natural ingredient. Aveeno says this body lotion comes with Colloidal Oatmeal, which makes us believe it's a natural product and actually the Oatmeal will moisturize our skin. But it won't, because it barely has it.

But that's what companies do: Put tiny amounts of natural ingredients just to be able to say their product is natural. I called it misleading.

Aveeno is owned by Johnson&Johnson and if you check a Johnson&Johnson body lotion, you won't be too surprised to find that the ingredients are almost identical with the Aveeno body lotion. And the price? Aveeno cost 65% more than a non natural Johnson&Johnson body lotion. For the same ingredients?? Wow...

And do you guys know what they say when you ask them what makes Aveeno product natural? (It says on the product: "Active Naturals") They say: "I believe that information is proprietary. I don't even think we have that information available." (Lousy Labels)

So..what do you guys think? Does this sound fair to you? Do you think this Aveeno lotion it's worth?

You can ask why are they allowed to make these claims? The answer is simple: because there is no consequences. It's always our responsibility to check the label!

I am not affiliated with this company. I purchased this product myself for personal use unless otherwise noted. My opinion is completely honest and based on my own experience.
