The five most common types are found in:
- Collagen I: skin, tendons, vascular ligatures, organs, bones
- Collagen II: cartilage, vitreous humour of the eye
- Collagen III: skin, intestines, uterus artery walls
- Collagen IV: kidney, eye lens
- Collagen V: cell surfaces, hair and placenta
